Founded in 2021, we look forward to the day fresh produce is available to all. Until then, we’re here to help.

How it All Started
We have always had a garden in our lives to provide our family with fresh foods and offer color, plentiful plants in our yard. When moving to Oak cliff, we immediately began a garden and saw the community loved the garden to fulfill their need for fresh food and the community center it offered. After noticing neighbors transporting the plants further down the road, the need for fresh food became evident to us, thus Neighborhood Gardens was born.
Who We Are
Started by Garret and Lauren Ratner who decided to reside in Oakcliff after falling in love with the community and atmosphere. Raising their two kids with access to fresh gardens, they too have adopted the love of gardening and enjoy trying new recipes to explore all the tastes the gardens have to offer.
Our Vision
Our story is just beginning. We hope this journey will bring fresh food to those in Dallas who need it and help to accomplish a stronger sense of community. Neighborhood Gardens aims to develop gardens across the city of Dallas unique to the neighborhood where they are located- created and maintained by the community they benefit. In order to fight the battle against food deserts in DFW, we also aim to educate those we assist on garden maintenance, harvesting, and cooking.
Our Mission
Neighborhood Gardens transforms urban cityscapes into flowering edible gardens that provide food, beauty, and a "hands-on" educational platform for building future gardeners and seed breeders
